Quick Summary
- Sweet Korean snacks: Choco Pie, Pepero, Turtle Chips, and Yakgwa
- Savory Korean snacks: Shrimp Crackers and Turtle Chips
- Unique Korean drink and ice cream: Banana Milk and Melona Bars
1. Choco Pie
The Korean version of moon pie!
It has a fluffy marshmallow center sandwiched between soft cakes and coated in chocolate.
I love the original flavor.
When Koreans forget to buy a cake for someone’s birthday or have a low budget as a student, we stack a Choco Pie tower and light up a candle!
If you like Choco Pie and want to try something similar, check out Moncher Dream Cake or Oh Yes Premium Chocolate Coated Cake as well.
2. Shrimp Crackers (Saewoo Kkang)
A classic Korean snack, Shrimp Crackers are crispy, savory, and packed with umami flavor.
If you love seafood, you’ll fall in love with this one.
I feel like I should have some at Noraebang (private singing rooms or Korean karaoke) for some reason.
Many Koreans feed these to seagulls. I’m not sure if this is okay, but seagulls seem to enjoy the flavor.
When you get bored with this version, feel free to check out other Kkang series!
According to the article written by Reporter Ha Su-jeong at Hankyung, Meoktae Kkang (pollack) is the 6th addition to Nongshim’s Kkang series after Saewoo Kkang in 1971, Gamja Kkang, Yangpa Kkang, and Goguma Kkang in the 1970s, and Oksusu Kkang in 2020.
3. Pepero
Pepero is the Korean version of Pocky, with so many flavor options.
Whether you choose classic chocolate, almond crunch, or unique ones like green tea or cookies and cream, these chocolate-dipped biscuit sticks are super addictive.
Pepero is a must-try snack on November 11th, which is Pepero Day in South Korea!
It’s a nice gesture to give Pepero to Koreans on Pepero Day whether they’re your significant other, family, friend, or even colleague.
4. Banana Milk
Okay, it’s technically a drink, but it’s too iconic to skip.
Creamy, sweet, and with nostalgic charm, Banana Milk is not to be missed.
I love Binggrae Banana Flavored Milk, especially after visiting a Korean spa!
5. Orion Turtle Chips
These four-layered chips are uniquely shaped and satisfyingly crunchy.
The Cornsoup flavor is a fan favorite, offering a sweet and savory experience.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard that Choco Churros Flavor is great too.
6. Yakgwa (Honey Cookies)
If you’re into traditional snacks, Yakgwa is a chewy, honey-flavored delight.
These fried cookies are sweet and pair perfectly with tea.
I grew up eating these during holidays as we always offer them on a jesasang (table for ancestral rites).
7. Binggrae Melona Bars
Korea’s legendary melon-flavored ice cream bars.
It’s always a refreshing treat on a hot day.
H-Mart’s freezer aisle has plenty of these gems.
Koreans also jokingly say, “Bring Melona when you come back!” when saying goodbye to someone who will be back.
When you head to H-Mart’s snack aisle, take your time exploring.
With endless flavors and textures, you’ll find something new every time.
